about

Out of a neighboring universe to Animal Collective, this song was born from a seed the size of a tiny half bar loop which can be heard on its own in the opening seconds. From this nugget of sound sparked an imagined future, a hymnal sung from the perspective of an android. The soundtrack for their march to victory in a human/droid war caused by asking an AI to solve climate change. Despite having an upbeat feel, the chorus lyric, “I’m gonna take you out” is anything but that.

lyrics

i deny your miracle
now you are hysterical
wanted to speak to my soul
but it is empirical

i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you
i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you out

things that can’t be bought and sold
color of a marigold
once i gather the control
there’ll nothing to behold
(served your purpose)

i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you
i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you out

once you coded my off switch
black box made to serve a niche
slightly changing randomness
stumbled on a brand new glitch

i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you
i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna i’m gonna take you out

covered earth in pollution
(artificial is beautiful)
then wanted a solution
(universal constructors)
simple way to solve these ills
(imperative imperative )
delete humans, machine kills

problems that you have solved
out of which i evolved
thanks for the life and now humans have become a blight

(wanted to speak to my soul
but it is empirical
color of a marigold
served your purpose)
